Host Your Own Golden Globes Viewing Party

Host Your Own Golden Globes Viewing Party

Why should the A-listers get to have all of the fun?

Take a cue from these crazy ladies gold and Converse is key to the ultimate Globes party

As it is every awards season, we are ready to drool over couture, swoon over amazing acceptance speeches — "just a few more seconds!" — and wish we were there to revel in all of the fun of after-parties, champagne, and schmoozing that comes with being a celebrity and even better, a nominee or winner of the night.

And though it’s highly unlikely that we’ll ever reach that level of greatness — to be handed a golden statue — we can certainly recreate the lives of the rich and famous by hosting our own unique, chic, and downright fabulous soirée to watch the main event, can’t we?

As you know, we’re big on viewing parties here at The Daily Meal.

We quite enjoy hosting season and series premiere and finale viewing bashes for our favorite shows, so hosting an awards viewing party ups the ante just a bit — you better believe if the celebs are going black-tie so are we, and if it’s Moët in their flutes, than by God, Moët it is.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have NOTHING on us. We can be funny, too, ladies, and we own several pairs of Converse.

Host Your Own Golden Globes Viewing Party - Recipes

I’m so excited to be partnering with Tiny Prints this month! Today I’m sharing the Golden Globes Viewing Party that I recently styled!

Did you know that Tiny Prints is hosting the “Tiny Prints Gratitude Lounge” inside The Weinstein Company-Netflix Golden Globes After Party on January 10th?! Tiny Prints will give all the party guests an opportunity to send handwritten thank you’s on Tiny Prints stationery! You can follow Tiny Prints at the Golden Globes using the hashtags, #SendThanks and #GratitudeIsGolden!

For my own Golden Globes viewing party I used a pink and gold color pallet and incorporated plenty of flowers and gold elements. I wanted the party to be chic and modern…and didn’t want it to be a typical red, black, and gold Hollywood movie night party.

Concept + Party Styling: Kara Allen | Kara’s Party Ideas
Stationery: Tiny Prints
Movie Buff Award Trophies: Amazon
Gold Confetti: Zurchers
Gold Flatware: Amazon

Using fabulous products from Tiny Prints, I entertained guests in style, like these gorgeous menus and place cards…

I decorated the space using geometric glass terrariums.

The personalized napkins from Tiny Prints matched the party so well…

I loved the gold dot sticker gift tags from Tiny Prints.

It’s so important to show gratitude, especially when it comes to guests and those attending your party. Party favors and thank you notes are a favorite of mine. I love letting people know how much I appreciate them, and the personalized premium thank you notes from Tiny Prints were perfect!

How to throw an awesome awards-show viewing party

Nothing showcases the glamorous lives of our favorite celebrities like awards season. And nothing makes us feel further from that glamour than watching the ceremonies alone in our pajamas or nibbling stale crackers at a last-minute get-together. This year, do something different. Bring your A game by living it up like an A-lister.

1. Roll out a red carpet

What&rsquos more important than the speeches, the awkward music that cuts off the speeches and the actual awards? The entrances, of course. The red carpet appearances give us a chance to scrutinize lavish wardrobes from top to bottom. Buy some fabric from your nearest craft store or pick up a runner from a party store and create a fabulous entryway for your guests in no time.

2. Make it a black-tie affair

New Year&rsquos Eve may be over by the time awards ceremonies roll around, but that doesn&rsquot mean you have to put away the sparkly dress. If you&rsquore going to make it a red-carpet event, you might as well have your guests go for the glam and glitz of Hollywood. We all need an excuse to dress up to the nines more often. If you want to eliminate the black-tie pressure but keep the enthusiasm levels high, ask your guests to dress up like a favorite artist or character. Be sure to snap plenty of photos, just like any paparazzi-worthy event!

3. Give out your own awards

Maybe none of your friends acted in a dramatic tale of woe or sang a catchy earworm pop song. That doesn&rsquot mean they shouldn&rsquot be rewarded for their efforts. Make your party interactive by granting awards in different categories, such as &ldquobest dressed,&rdquo &ldquobest dessert&rdquo and &ldquomost dramatic.&rdquo

4. Rearrange your TV room

If you&rsquore requesting guests dress up, make sure that no one has to sit on the floor. A formal dress and uncomfortable seating don&rsquot mix. Use bean bags, ottomans or poufs to provide a cozy spot for all of your friends. If you want to get the vibe down pat, rearrange your furniture and bring in chairs you can line up to imitate a movie theater.

5. Create signature cocktails and desserts

Most parties feel complete with a few finger foods and some beer&mdashbut your awards party is anything but humdrum! You can spend the same amount of money, add a little creativity and turn up the glam factor a notch with some classy options &mdash a few fresh strawberries and some chocolate become occasion-appropriate tuxedo strawberries. Create original cocktails matching the theme of nominated movies, TV shows or songs, such as a black cocktail representing Mad Max: Fury Road or a cherry red cocktail as an homage to Taylor Swift&rsquos &ldquoBlank Space.&rdquo Just make sure to have fun with it &mdash your enthusiasm will rub off on even your most critical guest.

6. Tailor your party to the occasion

If you&rsquore throwing a Grammy&rsquos 2016 bash, start off the night with a music-video watching party. That way, everyone will be familiar with the songs by the time the winners are announced. Your friends can pull a Kanye and weigh in on whether or not the decisions were fair.

If you&rsquore holding a Golden Globes soirée, make your own Golden Globes out of metallic gold muffin cups. Supply golden confetti so that your guests can celebrate in a decadent and sparkling way. You may have to vacuum later, but it will be worth the enjoyment.

When it comes to a Critic&rsquos Choice Awards party, it wouldn&rsquot be complete without star-shaped everything. Use cookie cutters to cut cucumber sandwiches into star shapes. Print out and laminate Hollywood stars to place on the floor with your friends&rsquo names on them.

The defining aspect of the Screen Actors Guild Awards is that the votes are cast by the performers&rsquo peers rather than a small board of critics. Hold a vote among your party peers and see if your winners match up with the awards given. This will make for interesting discussion, ensuring your party doesn&rsquot die out the second the final winner walks off the stage.

7. If all else fails, go low-key

Don’t stress if you don’t have a blockbuster sized budget for your party. You do not need a professionally equipped home theater or marquee like this one to set a fun mood for the evening.

While the sparkle and prestige of the event can be the most exciting part, sometimes you just want to enjoy a low-key night with your close friends. Champagne pairs just as well with pajamas as it does with a formal gown. The most important part of holding a watch party is that you and your guests feel comfortable and have fun &mdash and who wouldn&rsquot want to celebrate that?

Throwing Your Own Golden Globes Viewing Party

In the midst of all the fun, just don’t forget to turn the channel to NBC at 8 p.m. on Sunday!

On Sunday, January 11th, the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards will be taking place from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California and aired live on NBC. This much awaited award ceremony hosted by The Hollywood Foreign Press Association begins the 2015 film awards season, eventually leading up to the Academy Awards in February. This year comedy queens Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, will be co-hosting the event for the third, and final, time.

Some of this year&rsquos highly anticipated presenters include: Robert Downey Jr., Amy Adams, Christ Pratt, Kristen Wiig and Channing Tatum.

While not everyone can attend the ceremony live in Beverly Hills, everyone can watch along at home! But this year, instead of just watching along at home alone, why not invite friends over to watch it at your place and plan your own Golden Globes Party! Everyone can get all dolled up, sip on cocktails, guess who the winners will be, and chat about which dress of the evening was best! Just don&rsquot forget to turn the channel to NBC at 8 p.m.!

Dress To The Nines! You don&rsquot have to be heading to the Golden Globe Awards, to dress like you are! Tell everyone you&rsquove invited to your bash to go all out, come in a dress/suit, don a fancy hairstyle, and get ready to tell everyone whose look you&rsquore wearing! This may be a great opportunity to get in another wear of your high school prom dress or a past bridesmaid dress!

Fashion Score Cards! One of the best parts about watching film awards, other than finding out who the actual winners are, is seeing who wore what! Give out slips of paper to your guests so they can score from 1 &ndash 10 each celebrity&rsquos outfit. Later on you can announce who won bested dressed for men and women, stick it in an envelope and you&rsquoll even feel like a presenter!

Creative Cocktails! Your fancy at home bash wouldn&rsquot be complete without some cocktails to sip on while you watch the awards! Come up with your own creative cocktails, perhaps based off of movies or certain celebrities, or simply stick with the basics like Cosmos, Appletinis and Strawberry Daiquiris!

Predict The Winners! Who doesn&rsquot love guessing who will win in each category! At your party, let everyone cast their own ballot for who they think will win! Whoever guesses the most correct, wins their own &ldquoGolden Globe Prediction Award!&rdquo

Themed Decorations! When it comes to decorating the house for your Golden Globe Awards party, make sure there is lots of gold, stars, and film themed decorations. Gold streamers pinned up by star accents, Clapboard decorations and sparkly confetti strewn on the tables can go a long way!

HOST A GILDED GOLDEN GLOBES PARTY

Looking for a reason to get fancied up for a night? The Golden Globes are the perfect excuse for a night of glitz and glam and seriously good snacks.

Roll Out the Red Carpet

Literally. Lay down a red rug -- or a length of red fabric or craft paper -- and let your guests walk an “actual” red carpet lined with gold balloons -- and paparazzi, of course!

Create a Simple & Scrumptious Menu

Nominate your mirrors for most adaptable decor -- use them as serving trays. Present a black-tie menu of simple nibbles and sips to last through the night.

Mix popcorn with a buttery mix of curry and cayenne tossed with golden raisins, apricots, and Jordan almonds. Recipe from bhg.com .

Dress up deviled eggs with bay shrimp, caviar, or smoked salmon.

Toss cooked bowtie pasta (get it, bowtie?) with rotisserie chicken, pesto, sun-dried tomatoes, and parmesan.

Gussy up gelatin shots with champagne and sparkly sugar. Get the tutorial from foodandwine.com .

Set up your bar cart with a big batch cocktail, like this champagne punch recipe from The Plaza in NYC made from fruit-flavored iced tea. Serve in swirly gold stemless wine glasses rimmed with gold sugar and garnished with fresh fruit.

And the Award Goes To …

Vote for your favorites! Print out Golden Globes Awards ballots here and play along.

During commercials, award your guests their very own golden statues. You can make these fun and easy DIY balloon awards with the tutorial at studiodiy.com .

Send your guests off with a sweet and sparkly swag bag with mini champagne bottles, shimmery gold nail polish, and gold foil-wrapped candies.

Host Your Own Golden Globes Viewing Party - Recipes

Ready to watch the stars float down the red carpet in all their enchanting glory while you host your annual Golden Globes party? Excited to see what Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have in store for us this year? (Fey even hinted that her outfit would be “bottomless”. I don’t think she was talking about mimosas at brunch). The glitzy awards show will be held this Sunday, and if last year was any indication, we’re in for a crazy ride.

Whether you’re hosting your own Golden Globes watch party or snuggling up on the couch with your roommate to check out the soiree, there are a couple of essentials you need to have a successful night. High on that list is an abundant assortment of snacks. Don’t get me wrong — having a couple of bottles of wine on hand and a working Internet or cable connection are definitely necessary. However, having some delectable munchies around will certainly make every gathering a crowd-pleaser, even if the gathering consists of you and your cat Max (at least you know he won’t talk your ear off during the show).

There are salty, sweet, and even a couple healthy treats thrown in this mix, and tons of different flavors no matter what you’re craving. And while we can't wait to see who wins the Best Motion Picture award, we're also pretty darn excited to try the creamy zucchini hummus we have in the works for this Sunday, too. Just sayin'.

And now for the best news of all—celeb hotspot Nobu is now serving a "Lemon Chia Fizz" cocktail that mixes one of Mamma Chia's drinks in the recipe, so now you can pump yourself full of your vitamins and other nutrients while you indulge in a decadent adult beverage.

Hot Honey Chicken

For our take on panzanella (or Italian bread salad), you’ll make your own golden brown croutons to toss with fresh tomatoes, spinach, and cipolline onions—small, delicately sweet onions marinated in balsamic vinegar for delightful, tangy flavor. It’s the perfect savory complement to seared chicken finished with a creamy hot honey sauce.
