  1. In a shallow container, blend soy sauce, honey, vegetable oil, lime juice and garlic. Place chicken breasts into the mixture, and turn to coat. Cover, and marinate in the refrigerator at least 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat barbecue for high heat.
  3. Lightly oil barbecue cooking grate. Discard marinade, and grill chicken 6 to 8 minutes on each side, until juices run clear.

Recipe Summary

  • 3 tablespoons honey, divided
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground red pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 4 (6-ounce) skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
  • ½ teaspoon grated lime rind
  • Cooking spray

Combine 2 tablespoons honey and next 7 ingredients (through garlic) in a large heavy-duty zip-top plastic bag. Add chicken seal bag. Marinate in refrigerator overnight, turning occasionally.

Preheat grill to high heat.

Combine remaining 1 tablespoon honey and lime rind. Remove chicken from bag discard marinade. Place chicken on grill rack coated with cooking spray. Grill 5 minutes on each side, basting with reserved honey mixture during last 2 minutes of cooking time. Cover and let stand 5 minutes.

This recipe is the one you pull out when you’re feeling uninspired and having one of those “I don’t know what to fix for dinner” days. Two things I always have on hand are chicken and rice. Chicken and rice is a great go to for those uninspired days. But just plain old chicken and rice can get boring so today’s recipe is a quick and easy dress up for that good old stand by using things you most likely already have on hand.

  • ¼ cup sherry

In a large glass bowl, stir together the vinegar, oil, soy sauce, lime juice, lemon juice, sherry, mustard, and honey. Mix in the garlic, brown sugar, lemon pepper, oregano, rosemary, and salt. Place the chicken in the mixture. Cover, and marinate in the refrigerator 8 hours or overnight.

Preheat the grill for high heat.

Lightly oil the grill grate. Discard marinade, and place chicken on the grill. Cook 6 to 8 minutes per side, until juices run clear.

This pregnancy I have been craving fresh and sweet things. This Honey Lime Grilled Chicken recipe was a perfect combination of those two adjectives and fused them together beautifully in this simple yet restaurant worthy recipe. This received great reviews from my entire family.

The citrus and sweet honey create a heavenly bite as each of those components is infused into each bite of chicken. The prep work is super easy and doesn’t take long at all. This recipe was adapted from my Cilantro Lime Grilled Chicken and was a wonderful change up to the usual.

How do you make Grilled Honey Lime Chicken?

You’ll start out by combining minced fresh garlic, lime juice and honey. Half of that mixture is used to marinate bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs overnight, while the other half is set aside and cooked down and thickened to create a luscious sauce.

Once the chicken has marinated, simply grill the chicken and serve with that incredible honey lime sauce on the side. A few squeezes of fresh lime juice also adds great flavor to this simple, delicious Grilled Honey Lime Chicken.

The flavors in this Grilled Honey Lime Chicken are sweet and citrusy with a garlicy undertone that perfectly complements the juicy grilled chicken.

How to Make grilled chicken

Grilling chicken breast doesn’t have to be difficult. Follow these steps for the best grilled chicken:

  • Store your chicken separately from other food in the fridge. Keep your raw chicken on the bottom shelf of the fridge so it doesn’t drip onto other foods.
  • Always thaw chicken in the refrigerator instead of leaving it out at room temperature. When you thaw chicken in the microwave, it begins cooking the meat immediately and can cause harmful bacteria to grow if it isn’t completely cooked all at once.
  • Add flavor by marinating. If you are using a marinade as a basting or dipping sauce, set aside a portion for later before adding the raw meat to it.

  • 1 lemon, zested and juiced
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, pressed
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper

Preheat grill for medium heat and lightly oil the grate.

Remove chicken breasts from bag discard used marinade. Cook chicken on the preheated grill until the center is no longer pink and the juices run clear, 7 to 8 minutes per side.

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1/8 tsp hot pepper sauce
  • 6 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  1. To prepare marinade, combine all ingredients except chicken in a heavy zip-lock plastic bag.
  2. Add chicken and squeeze bag to coat chicken with marinade seal bag. Let stand for 30 minutes.
  3. Remove chicken from marinade discard marinade.
  4. Grill chicken over medium heat on natural gas barbecue for 12 - 15 minutes or until chicken is cooked through.

From beginning to end, this is an easy full of flavor chicken the whole family will love! Grilled chicken is a favorite in our home and this recipe is so quick and easy to make!

  1. The Marinade: In a small bowl combine lime juice, honey, soy sauce, olive oil, garlic, cilantro, salt, and pepper.
  2. Let it all soak in: Pour the sauce over the chicken and let marinate for 3 hours or overnight.
  3. Grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Grill each side of the chicken for about 3-4 minutes or until cooked throughout and no longer pink.

Tips for the Best Chicken with Honey Lime Cilantro Marinade

You will love this easy dynamite grilled chicken! Honey and lime mixed together is the perfect combination! Then top it off with cilantro and you have a dynamic duo. With these quick tips you will be grilling the perfect chicken every time.

  • Chicken: It all starts with the chicken. For grilling, I highly recommend using chicken thighs with bone-in if you can. They will be the juiciest. If you use chicken breasts, pound them so they are the same thickness. They will cook more evenly.
  • Marinate: The lime and soy sauce will act like an acid breaking down the chicken fibers and helping them absorb the flavor and moisture. This will help the chicken not only taste amazing but help keep it tender and moist.
  • Spicy: If you need a bit more spice you can add some jalapeno juice or chopped-up jalapeno peppers.
  • Internal Temp: The internal temperature of the chicken should reach 160 degrees for safety. Check out my other tips for how to get it cooked done, but not overdone.
  • Let it Rest: Tent the chicken for 5-10 minutes to let the juices redistribute throughout the meat. This leaves more juice inside the chicken and less on your plate.
  • Drizzle: Reserve ¼ of a cup of the marinade before adding the chicken to marinate. When the chicken is done grilling drizzle the extra marinade over the top. DO NOT use the marinade the raw chicken had been sitting in.
