It seems like everyone has a special place in their heart for Krispy Kreme's plain glazed doughnut.

Krispy Kreme has more than 50 doughnuts in their repertoire, and each one has a different amount of fat and calories. KETO KRISPY KREME DONUTS

Having a Krispy Kreme donut and living a keto lifestyle are no longer mutually exclusive, so bake these very yeasty and addictive donuts with a crunchy, sugary exterior you’ll want to have again and again without all the guilt!

INGREDIENTS

Donut Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons coconut flour
  • 6 tablespoons almond flour
  • 1 teaspoon xanthan gum
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons monk fruit sweetener
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil melted
  • 2 eggs

Glaze Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup monk fruit sweetener we like Lakanto-Golden
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil

INSTRUCTIONS

For the Donut

  • Preheat oven to 350℉.
  • Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl with a whisk.
  • Add and rest of ingredients to the dry ingredients and whisk until it becomes a sticky, thick dough.
  • Use a piping bag or a ziplock bag to pipe the dough into a greased donut pan and bake for 20 minutes, then remove from oven to let cool.
  • While cooling, start the glaze.

For the Glaze:

  • In shallow saucepan, combine all ingredients and whisk together.
  • Let cook on medium heat for five minutes while whisking constantly.

Assemble:

  • Once donut is slightly cooled, drop in pan of hot glaze, and coat both sides completely.
  • Repeat until all donuts are coated.(If you notice glaze is starting to thicken up in pan, place back on heat for a minute or so to remelt).
  • Let cool on plate. The glaze with harden a bit, creating a crunchy exterior. Enjoy!

NOTES

Substitutes: Monk Fruit sweetener for any granulated sweetener

Xanthan Gum can be omitted, although it will change the texture a bit

Coconut Oil can be subbed for any oil

Eggs cannot be substituted in this recipe

Wheat flour is used in the base of our classic doughnut recipe. Therefore all our doughnuts aren&rsquot suitable for those requiring a gluten-free diet. However feel free to treat yourself to our mouth-watering milkshakes and ice cream or even a steaming hot coffee!

All eggs used here at Krispy Kreme are 100% free-range. We also ensure all of the eggs used in our products are pasteurised and are safe for consumption by everyone including pregnant women.

Although we here at Krispy Kreme love a little tipple, our current range of doughnuts do not contain any alcohol and is safe to be consumed and enjoyed by all of our customers.

Artificial Colours

We like to keep it natural and original here at Krispy Kreme, therefore we do not use artificial colours within any of our core products.

We actively avoid the use of artificial trans fats within our products. However in some cases, if trans fats are present, there will only be so in small traces in specific products.

Vegetable Shortening

We love seeing our stunning doughnuts sizzling away in our fryers turning the beautiful golden colour you are used to seeing, to do this we use 100% vegetable shortening in our doughnut, made of a blend of palm and high-oleic sunflower oils.

I tried krispy kreme doughnuts few years back when we were on a vacation. I really loved the texture of the doughnuts, they were so pillowy and has a chewy light airy texture to it. Ever since i tasted those i always wondered how they would make the dough.

I have made quite a few version of donuts on my channel. But none of it got the texture right. Few days back i tried mochi doughnuts recipe and instantly got a idea of adding glutinous rice flour in it to get the krispy kreme like texture. I know that i have to play with ingredient measurements to get the perfect texture.

HOW TO MAKE KRISPY KREME DOUGHNUTS AT HOME

TIPS & TRICKS FOR BEST DOUGHNUTS

  1. You can skip adding egg if you don’t want. You can add extra milk instead of egg.
  2. Instead of making vanilla glaze, you can mix little cocoa powder into the icing sugar to create chocolate glaze.
  3. You can pipe any jam or jellies into the doughnuts.
  4. Vanilla custard can be filled into the doughnuts.
  5. The addition of glutinous rice flour is important to create the iconic chewy pillowy texture.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS

Doughnuts are best served on the day it is made. But you can store in an air tight container at room temp for upto 1 to 2 days. But it will lose its freshness as it sits.

Krispy Kreme Needs Your Help Deciding Which Reese's Doughnut to Keep on the Menu Forever

The doughnut shop will be introducing three new Reese's flavors and asking customers to help them choose which one to add to the menu.

Reese's lovers rejoice, because Krispy Kreme is getting ready to rock your world. At a time when everyone could use a little bit more joy, Krispy Kreme is ready to deliver some doughnutty goodness into your life. The doughnut chain is releasing three Reese's doughnut offerings for a limited time and allowing doughnut connoisseurs customers to decide which one will become a permanent menu fixture in what they've dubbed the "Greataste Reese's Doughnut of All time."

If you're anything like me, you've been training your whole life for this moment, so start stretching, wash your hands, and take your mark, because it's time to decide which Reese's doughnut will be crowned the GOAT. The competition is between three Reese's doughnuts from years past:

  • Classic Reese's Doughnut: A shell doughnut filled with Reese's peanut butter cream, all dipped in Hershey's chocolate icing, and topped off with a drizzle of Reese's chocolate and peanut butter sauce and a flurry of mini peanut butter chips.
  • Reese's Outrageous Doughnut: A chocolate yeast ring doughnut dipped in Hershey's chocolate icing and topped with mini Reese's pieces and a salted caramel and peanut butter icing drizzle
  • Reese's Original Filled Chocolate Lovers Doughnut: A chocolate yeast ring filled with Reese's peanut butter cream, dipped in Hershey's chocolate icing, and finished off with some Reese's peanut butter icing

In case it's not obvious, the Krispy Kreme execs have put the task of deciding which one to keep on the menu in your hands because WHO COULD MAKE A DECISION THIS HARD?! But don't worry, all those years of indulging in fresh-off-the-conveyer-belt Krispy Kreme doughnuts and late nights devouring Reese's peanut butter cups has prepared you to cast your crucial vote in this race. Beginning July 24, you can try all three flavors in participating Krispy Kreme shops across the country, and once you've really taste tested (maybe a couple times, for good measure), you can cast your vote on social media by using the hashtags #TheGreataste and #KrispyKreme and tagging @krispykreme. And if you want to go the extra mile for your doughnut of choice, Krispy Kreme is encouraging reviewers to get creative by posting a song, dance, artwork, haiku, or whatever these doughnuts inspire in you. The winner will be announced in August, so stay tuned.

Step 3: Shaping the Donuts

After the dough has risen, turn dough onto floured surface roll around lightly to coat with flour.

Gently roll dough 1/2-inch thick with floured rolling pin.

Cut with floured doughnut cutter. Separate donuts and holes, as they take different frying times (but are equally delicious). Save your scraps - they are both great to test your fry time and to snack on while you're making the rest!

Cover and let rise until double, 30-40 minutes.

Krispy Kreme

The automated process for creating Krispy Kreme doughnuts, developed in the 1950's, took the company many years to perfect. When you drive by your local Krispy Kreme store between 5:00 and 11:00 each day (both a.m. and p.m.) and see the "Hot Doughnuts Now" sign lit up, inside the store custom-made stainless steel machines are rolling. Doughnut batter is extruded into little doughnut shapes that ride up and down through a temperature and humidity controlled booth to activate the yeast. This creates the perfect amount of air in the dough that will yield a tender and fluffy finished product. When the doughnuts are perfectly puffed up, they're gently dumped into a moat of hot vegetable shortening where they float on one side until golden brown, and then the machine flips them over to cook the other side. When the doughnuts finish frying, they ride up a mesh conveyor belt and through a ribbon of white sugar glaze. If you're lucky enough to taste one of these doughnuts just as it comes around the corner from the glazing, you're in for a real treat—the warm circle of sweet doughy goodness practically melts in your mouth. It's this secret process that helped Krispy Kreme become the fastest-growing doughnut chain in the country.

As you can guess, the main ingredient in a Krispy Kreme doughnut is wheat flour, but there is also some added gluten, soy flour, malted barley flour, and modified food starch plus egg yolk, non-fat milk, flavoring, and yeast. I suspect a low-gluten flour, like cake flour, is probably used in the original mix to make the doughnuts tender, and then the manufacturer adds the additional gluten to give the doughnuts the perfect framework for rising. I tested many combinations of cake flour and wheat gluten, but found that the best texture resulted from cake flour combined with all-purpose flour. I also tried adding a little soy flour to the mix, but the soy gave the dough a strange taste and it didn't benefit the texture of the dough in any way. I excluded the malted barley flour and modified food starch from the Krispy Kreme original glazed doughnut recipe since these are difficult ingredients to find. These exclusions didn't seem to matter because the real secret in making these doughnuts look and taste like the original lies primarily in careful handling of the dough.

The Krispy Kreme original glazed doughnut recipe dough will be very sticky when first mixed together, and you should be careful not to over mix it or you will build up some tough gluten strands, and that will result in chewy doughnuts. You don't even need to touch the dough until it is finished with the first rising stage. After the dough rises for 30 to 45 minutes it will become easier to handle, but you will still need to flour your hands. Also, be sure to generously flour the surface you are working on when you gently roll out the dough for cutting. When each doughnut shape is cut from the dough, place it onto a small square of wax paper that has been lightly dusted with flour. Using wax paper will allow you to easily transport the doughnuts (after they rise) from the baking sheet to the hot shortening without deflating the dough. As long as you don't fry them too long—1 minute per side should be enough—you will have tender homemade doughnuts that will satisfy even the biggest Krispy Kreme fanatics.


They waste a lot of doughnuts

If it saddens you to think of even a single Krispy Kreme going to waste, prepare to be heartbroken.

In 2016, a UK customer saw about 50 bags of doughnuts all destined for the trash. "I was absolutely flabbergasted. I reckon there were about 200 doughnuts in each bag — if not more," Chris Clewes said. "I've done some quick maths and I reckon there were about 15,000 doughnuts being wasted there."

The company received much criticism, but explained it was only due to a glitch in accessing the recycling facilities that weekend. But why not donate the day-old doughnuts? In a statement on their website, the company said, "Any unsold or unacceptable quality doughnuts are recycled. to be used as a component of animal feed. Krispy Kreme doughnuts are an occasional indulgent treat and, as such, do not have the nutritional values adequate to be a meal replacement. Therefore, we have concerns about giving doughnuts to people in need of proper nourishment."
