Amazon recently revealed their “Best of Prime 2018” list, which revealed what Prime members bought—and enjoyed most—in the last year. Interestingly enough, three pieces of cookware topped their list.

We can’t say we’re too surprised to see these brand names on their list—after all, they’re some of our favorites, too. But if you’re in the market for some new cookware this holiday season, it may be worth it to jump on the bandwagon and buy one of these brands. Here’s what Prime members are loving.

Amazon Prime released a handful of original films during 2020. Some of them received widespread acclaim and have great ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.

Like pretty much every other major streaming service these days, Amazon Prime got into the world of original content. That includes movies to go along with their hit shows like The Expanse, The Boys, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Some weren't actually made by Amazon Studios but acquired by them over time.

2020 saw Amazon Prime release a slew of these movies to mostly strong reviews. A few were actually made in 2018 or 2019 but only saw their first major release on the streaming service. To ensure that the best of the bunch is featured here, only films with at least 50 official reviews on Rotten Tomatoes were considered.


Amazon's animated adaptation of Robert Kirkman's superhero comic series isn't for the faint of heart. Sure, it may not be a live-action production like The Boys, but Invincible is full of blood, gore, violence and other adult content.

Invincible tells the story of Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun), a seemingly normal teenager - expect for the fact that his dad Nolan (J.K. Simmons) is the world's most powerful superhero. Soon after his 17th birthday, Mark develops abilities of his own and begins to train under his father's tutelage. It isn't long, though, before Mark realizes that his dad's legacy isn't what it appears to be.

It's a slow burn to begin with. Well, apart from a specific scene in episode 1 that shocked viewers who haven't read the comics before. Its subversion of superhero tropes, emotional story beats, and ensemble cast will keep your attention until things really start to pick up from episode 4 - by which point you should be fully hooked.

Two more seasons have been greenlit, too, so there'll be more Invincible content to enjoy soon.

3 Reasons Amazon Is The World's Best Business

Why do some smaller companies grow faster than big ones? After all, big companies have more capital, talent and customers. The big companies ought to be able to use those resources to maintain their lead.

But with the notable exception of Amazon — whose stock hit an all-time high after it announced its earnings on February 1 — many big companies, especially ones with famous names like GE and IBM, struggle to keep growing.

Before getting into why Amazon is different, let's look at its phenomenal results. Amazon — which for years has been growing at over 20% a year — is not slowing down. Instead, its growth rate is accelerating.

Its fourth-quarter revenue surged 38% to $60.5 billion, which beat analysts’ expectations of $59.83 billion. Amazon's profit more than doubled to $1.9 billion — a figure that included a $789 million tax benefit, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Amazon expects to keep growing in the current quarter, forecasting first-quarter sales between $47.75 billion and $50.75 billion, which would be up between 34% and 42%, respectively.

Amazon projects first-quarter operating income between $300 million and $1 billion. In 2017's first quarter, it reported $1 billion in operating income, according to the Journal.

Here are the three reasons I think Amazon is the world's best business.

1. It has a sustainable competitive advantage

Competitive advantage is measured by market share leadership which flows from three sources.

— Giving customers more bang for the buck

When people buy things, they compare different suppliers on a ranked set of factors. For Amazon customers those factors, or customer purchase criteria (CPC), include price, fast delivery and reliable service. Consumers choose Amazon because it does better than its competition on these CPC.

— Harnessing capabilities to win at scale

Winning and keeping customers — especially when a company has millions of them — depends on doing certain things well. For Amazon, such capabilities include offering a wide selection of products and services, operating an efficient supply chain to fulfill orders and providing excellent customer service.

— Sustaining competitive superiority

While many large companies can do the first two things in one industry — think Apple in smart phones — very few can stay ahead as competitors try to copy their strategies and make successful bets on new growth opportunities.

Amazon did this first in online book selling and has continued to lead — it controls about 40% of the U.S. e-commerce market its Echo devices have about 75% of the smart-speaker market it runs a major Hollywood studio and its Amazon Web Services (AWS) unit leads with over 40% of the cloud computing market, according to the Journal.

2. Jeff Bezos is the world's best founder/public company CEO

Competitive advantage does not simply happen — CEOs must create it. And as I highlight in my book, Disciplined Growth Strategies, our system of capitalism does a superb job of rewarding CEOs who excel at it.

Specifically, the CEOs with the highest net worth tend to be founders of the largest, fastest-growing companies — people like Amazon's Jeff Bezos, whose net worth now tops the world at $120 billion, Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg and Alphabet's Sergei Brin and Larry Page.

Apple — which at $861 billion has a higher market capitalization than Amazon's $670 billion — suffers because it is so dependent on an 11-year-old product: the iPhone.

Apple CEO Tim Cook is not a founder, though he has squeezed a significant amount of profit from the iPhone and is trying to add services revenues. The company's relatively tepid stock price performance (its shares are up 30% in the last year compared to Amazon's 65%) is the result.

3. Its bets on growth create big new revenue streams

What makes Amazon the world's best business and Bezos its top CEO is his exceptional skill at turning bets on growth into wide new revenue streams.

Some of those bets are paying off now — others have potential to do so in the future.

Amazon created AWS by selling to companies the computing services it started building in 2000 to run its e-commerce operations. Today AWS is growing fast, with Q1 revenues up 45% to $5.11 billion. Its operating income rose about 46% to $1.35 billion, according to the Journal.

Growth can come from well-managed acquisitions as well. For example, its $13.5 billion acquisition of Whole Foods generated $4.52 billion in revenue, representing about 7% of Amazon's revenue — a considerable increase over the $3.5 billion Whole Foods reported in the same period last year, according to the Journal.

And after months of speculation, Amazon announced its health care play — a venture with JPMorgan Chase and Berkshire Hathaway to lower health care costs. It remains to be seen how this venture will achieve lower health care costs or whether these very different companies can work together effectively.

But one thing that makes Amazon so much better than its FANG peers is that it not only makes other bets, it makes them pay off. To wit, Alphabet still gets nearly all its profit from its advertising business. All its other bets — such as self-driving cars and cybersecurity — seem perpetually unable to add to its top line.

Last May, Amazon stock topped $1,000 and was growing at 40% a year. That's when I urged investors to buy before I predicted it would hit $2,000 a share in 2019.

At the accelerated rate that Amazon is growing, I would not be surprised to see it hit that level this year.

These Tools Are Why Amazon Is Successful

Jeff Bezos loves to write. A lot. In his annual letter to shareholders, Bezos does more than provide an overview of Amazon's performance he helps shareholders understand what makes Amazon different. Bezos always does one other thing: He attaches a copy of the first annual shareholder letter he wrote in 1997 to reinforce his commitment that Amazon will always operate with a mindset that it is Day 1.

I bring a different perspective when I write about Amazon as I am a former executive at the company. My primary goal was to analyze the company from the inside. Specifically, I wanted to understand what makes Amazon, Amazon? If successful in identifying the "secret sauce," so to speak, my intent was to answer this question: Is what Amazon does transferable to another company?

Did I succeed? To an extent, yes.

As mentioned earlier, Jeff Bezos loves to write. Bezos' most recent annual shareholder letter demonstrates his understanding of how to use language to advance his personal beliefs, educate others and command an audience. What's unique about this letter, however, is that it expands on one of the techniques I have identified as being a major reason for the success of the company — six-page narratives. The other? The internal press release.

Before moving deeper into this article, I want to make it clear that I am not suggesting that only six-page memos and press releases are the reason for Amazon's success. They're not. Amazon succeeds because it attracts and hires the most capable individuals from all over the world.

Amazon's Secret Sauce

Although counter intuitive to believe that something as simple as an internal press release and a six-page memo can be considered primary among the keys to Amazon's success, it's true.

Note: The press release is for internal use only. Although written in the form of an actual press release, it is not distributed to the press for publication.

Amazon is focused like a laser on customers. Instead of starting with an idea for a product and trying to convince executives that customers will "love the idea," Amazon works from the perspective of the customer to come up with ideas that will legitimately generate value.

For example, Prime was created because it was understood within Amazon that customers wanted to buy quality products for less money, and customers wanted to receive products as fast as possible. Prime appeared to be a solution that would meet both of these customer needs.

An internal press release was written centered around the existing problem (high costs, slow deliveries), why current solutions had failed to correct the problem, and how the new product (Prime) would blow away all existing solutions. I have read the original press release for Prime and Prime Now and I can attest that the actual programs achieved the goals as outlined in each press release.

At a high-level, the press release follows this outline:

  • Heading : Name the product in a way the reader (i.e. your target customers) will understand.
  • Sub-Heading : Describe the market for the product is and what benefit they get. One sentence only underneath the title.
  • Summary : Give a summary of the product and the benefit. Assume the reader will not read anything else so this paragraph is critical. Note: If you struggle writing the summary, step back and reevaluate the idea.
  • Problem : Describe the problem your product solves. Be clear.
  • Solution : Describe how your product solves the problem. Be enthusiastic!
  • Quote from You : A quote from a spokesperson in your company. For example: "Amazon customers want same-day deliveries. We created Prime and Prime Now to provide our customers with deliveries in as little as two hours," stated Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
  • How to Get Started : Describe how easy it is for customers to get started using the service.
  • Customer Quote : Provide a quote from a hypothetical customer that describes how they experienced the benefit. For example: "I was amazed that I could order protein bars and pre-workout supplements and receive them the same day," stated Brittain Ladd.
  • Closing and Call to Action : Reinforce to the customer why the product or service is a must-have and reinforce the value generated for the customer.

I wrote multiple press releases when I worked for Amazon, I read numerous press releases, and I taught others how to write press releases. I never witnessed a product or service become a reality if the press release didn't effectively identify the value of the product or service to the customer. Ever.

The rule of thumb I used at Amazon was this: If it was hard to write a press release or understand why a product or service would add value to customers, the product or service wasn't worth the effort. Move on.

I have been in many situations since I left Amazon where I was able to identify that writing a press release would have saved a consulting client millions of dollars and countless hours in wasted time and effort. How? The press release early in the process would have pinpointed that the focus of the company was on the product itself — not on customers. In such situations, I am never surprised when customers reject the product or service being offered.

The technique I credit the most for giving Amazon an advantage is the disciplined and rigorous use of six-page memos referred to as a "six pager" inside Amazon. As with the press release, I wrote many six-pagers inside Amazon and I taught others in the company how to better use six-pagers to advance an idea for a product or a service.

Six-pagers present and answer in excruciating detail the who, what, when, where and why of a product or service. Echo is an actual device so a six-pager would include tremendous detail on the specifications of the product, value to customer, technology requirements within Amazon to bring the product to market, budget, etc.

A six-pager written about Prime would focus more on the requirements of the supply chain and logistics to meet demand, identify which products are Prime eligible, internal systems requirements, budget, value to the customer, etc.

Just like the press release, I never witnessed a product or service become a reality at Amazon unless the six-pager contained the required data and was able to clearly articulate the value to customers and to Amazon. Executives at Amazon believe in the use of six-pagers 100%.

The real value of the six-pager that I identified is this: It forces otherwise busy and distracted executives to give their utmost attention and opinion to make a decision. I can't stress this point enough: Requiring executives and associates to sit in a room, read every page (front and back) of a six-page memo, discuss and dissect the data and the idea presented, and then make a decision to move forward is a very powerful management and decision-making methodology.

Six-pagers prevent hiding. Six-pagers separate the vital few ideas and products from the trivial many. Six-pagers identify where a company should place its focus and why. Six-pagers enforce discipline and rigor in decision-making. Six-pagers are an excellent management tool.

Can Other Companies Do The Same?

It is no secret that the majority of companies struggle to compete against Amazon.

Amazon perfected the use of the press release and six-page memo to give its executive team and associates a framework for identifying the optimal products and services to provide customers. Based on my experience and analysis, I can find no reason why other companies can't benefit from using the press release and six-page memo methodology.

I have also assessed the use of the press release and six-page memo by management consulting firms. Even though I have many tools in my consulting toolbox, if only given the chance to select two, I would choose the press release and the six-page memo over everything else. No joke.

In fact, I use a hybrid version of the six-pager for articles that I write for Forbes.

For example, the strategies and recommendations I identified for Campbell Soup and that I wrote about in this article were created writing a press release and a six-pager. I'm convinced that if Campbell Soup required executives and associates to utilize press releases and six-pagers, the board would never have approved the acquisition of Bolthouse Farms, Snyder Lance or any other of former CEO Denise Morrison's acquisitions.

Working backwards from the customer, what customers want is a far cry from the carrots and other products offered by the soup company. (Note: Feedback from executives, consultants and financial advisers working at Campbell's who read my article, verified that the recommendations I made were accurate.)

I also wrote a press release and a six-pager when I worked as a consultant for Kroger. Kroger has implemented the majority of the recommendations I identified using the techniques I learned from Amazon.

The challenge for companies that want to use the press release and the six-pager is that it requires a significant amount of training to master the techniques. In my experience, too many individuals outside of Amazon that attempt to use either document have a tendency to not invest the required time and effort in actually learning how to write and use both documents as designed.

In addition, companies must be willing to integrate the use of the press release and six-page memo into its DNA and leverage the tools for decision-making and strategy. I can state from experience that products and services I have seen approved at companies using different decision-making criteria would not have been approved at Amazon using a press release and a six-pager.

For example, I created a press release and a six-pager for Tesla's Model 3 and I can find no justification for Tesla manufacturing such a car in the first place. Working backwards from the customer, I challenge Tesla to prove that the Model 3 meets the needs of the very customers Tesla is trying to attract.

Elon Musk appears to be driving the narrative that the Model 3 is needed, not customers. Pickup trucks and SUVs are what customers want. In 2017, the top 3 new selling vehicles by sales volume were trucks with more than 2,000,000 units being sold. Multiple surveys of car customers have identified that customers do not want sedans.

Fans of Tesla will buy the Model 3 because its the only option for owning a Tesla for many customers. I estimate the Model 3 will become a top-seller in terms of revenue as I highly doubt the car will be priced below $55,000 to $60,000. Also, the category that the Model 3 competes is dominated by Honda and Toyota.

I believe enough car customers will be persuaded to buy the Model 3 over a Toyota or Honda due to the "cool factor" of the car. Long-term, however, sales of the Model 3 will peak rapidly. Also, the key metric isn't best "selling new car by revenue" it is total number of units sold. Honda and Toyota will easily sell more cars in the category than Tesla.

If Musk collaborated with a few independent thinkers to write a press release and a six-page memo, I'm convinced that the vehicle recommended to be designed and manufactured would not resemble the Model 3. The vehicle would actually be the type of vehicle customers want vs. being told what they're going to get. Big difference.

For the record: I have recommended to Amazon that it invest in or acquire Tesla. In turn, Tesla should partner with Ford (preferred) to design and manufacture a commercial electric pickup truck and an SUV.

If Musk had utilized the press release and six-page memo, he would have come to the realization that taking Tesla private was not a sound strategy.

Ford, P&G and GAP, Inc., are just a few of the companies that I strongly recommend adopt the use of the press release and the six-page memo. Ford continues to make the same mistakes over and over regardless of the CEO running the company.

P&G is an old company that needs new and bold thinking. P&G is also a company that will lose significant market share to Amazon over the next 5 to 10 years as Amazon greatly expands its private-label business. You read it here first: Amazon is the hub of online demand generation and as Amazon grows its physical store presence, it makes it easier for Amazon to introduce its own private label products. Amazon can become as big as P&G, if not bigger.

There are many other examples I can provide of how and why a press release and a six-page memo could have prevented executives from making a bad decision related to a product or service they thought was a good idea.

Bottom line: The press release and the six-page memo work because they identify the products and services most relevant for generating value to customers, and they accelerate execution of the strategy by increasing the speed at which decisions are made.

Should companies introduce the internal press release and the six-page memo into its culture and way of doing business? Absolutely.

This Circulon baking pan set scored perfect scores in our performance and ease of use tests. Cake and cookies came out evenly browned and had a fine texture with few air pockets, and broccoli also came out nice and consistently crisp. It earned perfect scores in our tests for performance, and was just shy of a perfect score for ease of use since the pans lack handles. We also tested the Chicago Metallic Professional Non-Stick 8-Piece Bakeware Set, which ranked just a smidge below the featured Commercial set. In terms of performance, the only difference was that the cookies took a little longer to bake than the manufacturer's instructions. The Professional set includes eight pieces instead of six, and comes with two half sheet trays, two round cake pans, and a rack, instead of square baking pan.

For newbie bakers or those with small kitchens, Anolon's Advanced Nonstick Bakeware set has the most useful assortment of pans to get started, including two round cake pans and a square pan for brownies. The half sheet tray resembles a cookie sheet with shallow edges, but is still rimmed, which makes it good for roasting juicy foods. It also has a large, square-like surface area. The cooling rack is an added bonus that can be used to cool cookies, as a trivet or roasting rack. All of the pans performed well in our tests, and they scored the highest for ease of use, thanks to being dishwasher safe and easy to handle &mdash we particularly appreciated the large silicone grips on the handles.
